Description of Operation
The anvil roll rotates continuously while the knife beam is electrically held in position with a direct drive brushless A.C. servo motor. When a “clip” signal is received, the knife beam rotates 120° at the same speed as the anvil roll.
Clipping is smooth and quiet, and the veneer is not stopped during clipping. Veneer “pile-ups” at the clipper are therefore eliminated!
In constant veneer speed applications, the anvil roll and knife beam are driven consistently at veneer speed (actually about 10% faster). Provided the infeed and outfeed conveyors are also in sync, the veneer is not disturbed at all during clipping, neither being stopped nor pulled. This results in accurate clipping due to the highly repeatable clip cycle time of the A.C. servo motor.
In variable veneer speed applications, clipping accuracy typically deteriorates during the acceleration and deceleration periods. The veneer can also be disturbed during clipping if the knife/anvil speed is not the same as the veneer speed, again resulting in inaccuracies. In these cases, for example, green clipping from the lathe with no constant lineal speed drive capability, it is advisable to synchronize the clipping action with the veneer speed to maximize clipping accuracy. This can be accomplished with the Merritt MRC rotary clipper.
10 Reasons Why You Should Choose A
“Merritt” Rotary Clipper Over Any Other
1. KNIVES
Easy set-up with disposable knives. Knives are inserted into a holder and clamped in place with screws — no adjustment, no honing, no grinding required.
2. ANVIL ROLL
Large diameter anvil roll has an estimated life of 2-3 years (15 million clips). Simple adjustment to the knife via hex nuts at each end.
3. ELECTRIC DRIVE
High efficiency electric drives on both anvil drive and knife drive. No hydraulics or air required.
4. NOISE LEVEL
A level of 65 dbA when clipping wet veneer at low speed has been measured. At high speed, we estimate the level to be 70-75 dbA, considerably less than any other clipper on the market.
5. ACCURACY
Due to the extremely consistent and fast response time from clip signal to knife contact, excellent clipping accuracy is achieved. At constant lineal veneer speeds, a tolerance of ±1/8" is achievable.
6. MAINTENANCE
The brushless A.C. servo drive motors require no routine maintenance. Cabinet cooling is by heat exchanger – no filters to maintain. Weekly/monthly grease lubrication of bearings is all that is required.
7. RELIABILITY
Our clippers have been operating 3 shifts/day for several years, clipping hardwoods & softwoods, wet or dry, with few problems of any kind.
8. PRICE
Check it out and compare – easily the best price of any rotary veneer clipper on the market. Compared with pneumatic clippers, the payback can be impressive. One customer estimated a payback of 6 weeks after replacing his old system!
9. GUARANTEE
We have the best guarantee in the business. Simply put – if our equipment does not perform to the specifications agreed upon and to your satisfaction, we will take the machine back and refund all monies paid, minus freight and installation costs. To date, no customer has had to exercise his guarantee rights.
10. FLEXIBILITY
Our philosophy is to satisfy you – our customer. Clippers are available in any knife length, with standard sizes of 57", 80", and 110". Available features include high speed, low speed, 3-knife or 5-knife designs, infeed hold down arrangements, fixed speed/synchronized speed, counting/measuring systems, scanner interface, etc. Ask us! |
